The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

Each time a significant honors show approaches, one notices a clamor for introducing additional classifications to recognize unsung work and delight the passions of followers who have specialized interests.

My colleague has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are tabletop games, representing a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front just as with other blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification backing this proposal stands as crucial and significant. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why movie academies steer clear of genre categories. But it is an essential concession within the realm of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies presently include award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these award types successfully include numerous genres, allowing placement for numerous titles.

Not so for logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

The Representation Problem

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers launched regularly that have no home during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked in any category during that awards season
  • A different innovative game received no nominations in 2019
  • Well-received sorting experience was overlooked recently
  • Limited numbers of logic titles managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're small games, but the art of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Well-known matching games stand as most engaged experiences worldwide continuing this trend for over a decade.

The legendary block-stacking game rivals well-known building titles claiming status as most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational for gaming as medium, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. You could fill a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers operate at the challenging frontier interactive creation, creating some of the purest expressions of the video game form. Just like film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
