Tributes Continue for the Reiners as Medical Examiner's Findings Remain Under Wraps.
Well beyond 14 days following the shocking loss of esteemed filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, the entertainment community are still paying respects to the couple.
Quoting a Classic: Cary Elwes Pays Tribute to His Director
Sharing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, mentioned he just recently felt able to share openly about his personal sorrow.
"Sufficient time has elapsed that I can finally express my sorrow into words," shared Elwes, adding that his first meeting with Reiner left him smitten. "Once we started sharing more moments together I realized this was someone I desired in my life."
The actor posted behind-the-scenes footage from the film, adding that he could not remember "any day without laughter".
"The film is about affection, allegiance and giving. Things that Rob valued immensely. That is part of the many reasons he was the best person to direct it," Elwes expressed.
He additionally honored Michele Reiner, stating: "Claiming that they were a formidable pair would be an understatement. My heart still aches every time I think of you." He finished with a phrase from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but living is anguish without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Friend and Collaborator
In a separate tribute, revered director Martin Scorsese shared memories of Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"Right away, I loved being with Rob. We had a instant connection for each other. He was uproarious and sometimes acutely humorous, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese shared.
Scorsese mentioned Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, embodying the father of the lead role.
"He could improvise with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked seamlessly with his co-stars, and he understood the human predicament of his character," Scorsese added.
Judicial Actions: Autopsy Reports Withheld
This week, a Los Angeles superior court judge agreed to bar the publication of the Reiners' autopsy reports, following a petition from the local authorities.
A legal directive issued a embargo on the files to limit the public release of "all case details, evidence and photographs" pertaining to the active case.
The relevant authority had already determined their deaths were the consequence of homicide, with a public database noting the cause as "wounds from an edged weapon".
Fallout and Commentary
In the wake of the tragedy, public figures offered different reactions.
Former President Donald Trump wrote on the matter, offering provocative claims that were widely condemned by many commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan added his perspective to the detractors recently. Speaking on his podcast, Rogan described the remarks as "shocking" and suggested they showed a worrisome deficiency of sympathy.
Rogan concluded by remarking that an aide should have acted when the decision to comment on the death was made.
